Even your favorite stream can get a little boring sometimes. Maybe the damned tubes are running. Whatever the reason there are plenty of other great fishing opportunities close by.

Lets start at one of the potentially most exciting spot. Kellum's Bridge on the Delaware. Just about 30 miles north on scenic Route 97 on the New York side of the Delaware you'll find Kellum's Bridge. This bridge brings you across the river where you can wind you way up to Equinunk, PA and the upper Delaware and West Branch. But here, here at this bridge, some really fast pocket water spills into a nice deep pool, When the water level is just right you can cast to WILD, I mean WILD Rainbows. The Rainbows here can get very big. But even the little one will give you a reel squealing thrill. This is best fished real early morning or evening. Beware, there can be a crowd here. And some of them might even be from New Jersey.

Just before Kellum's Bridge in the little river town of Hankins. If you can take a right onto Hankins Road in 10 to 15 minutes you'll be in Roscoe, NY. The Beaverkill. The Willowemoc. If you have never fished there GO. Go for NYS opening day. It can be a scene. It can also be excellent fishing nearly year round. Visit the Catskill Flies web site for lots of really good current information.

Oh too far? How about something a little closer to home.

The Lackawaxen 'in town'. When the tubes are running full blast you can always go to town. You can fish from the town building down to the first bridge. It can be pleasant here, if you like shopping carts. Fish can be very good here if you catch the right conditions.

Masthope Creek. Follow River under the Railroad trestle on the north side of the Zane Grey Bridge for about 4 to 5 miles and you come upon a State Hunting land entrance. The stream here is Masthope Creek. In the early Spring they stock quite a few fish here. Beware of the black flies They are thick here. This is a small stream and there aren't a lot of big pools or open ares for casting. The surface insects here are small and infrequent. Some of the small pools can get deep and there are a lot of logs and debris . Great places for fish to hide and you to get hung up.. I've fished here a few times and caught a couple of small browns.

Dyberry Creek. I haven't fish here but some local folks love it. Go north of Honesdale on Rt. 191 into the fair grounds and follow the stream.

The Delaware River. This is a very big river, The trout fishing starts just above Callicoon. But i've caught good Rainbows and small browns all the way down to Milford. There are lots of smallmouths, redbreast sunfish. giant chubs, shad, walleye, strippers, the odd yellow perch, northerns, muskies, pickerel and even bowfin.

Lake Wallenpaupack. Eighteen miles long. Real deep. The big lake requires a good boat because there is a lot of boat traffic thus lots of chop. and there is always a wind in the open areas. The big attraction are the strippers, but there are muskies, huge brown trout, northerns and several species of catfish. The pressure is big but so is the lake.
